Dr Bethune is a specialist Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with the subspecialty certificate in Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound (COGU). He is the founding consultant at Specialist Women’s Ultrasound a women’s imaging practice based in Box Hill, Victoria and is a visiting imaging specialist at Mercy Hospital for Women, Melbourne. Michael is actively involved in ultrasound education and has spoken at several national and international meetings. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Melbourne. He sits on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) Ultrasound Examination committee.

Dr Bethune is the present Treasurer of the Australasian Association of Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasonologists (AAOGU). He is a RANZCOG accredited Nuchal Translucency Examiner, and a certified member of the International Ovarian Tumour Analysis (IOTA) group. His fields of interest include 3D/4D Ultrasound and prenatal diagnosis.
